And the Athletic Gods, *Nike and Adidas in their infinite wisdom said unto Stanwick Races Group: ‘For six years of your event we shall grant you fine weather but on the seventh you will have storm and tempest’.

Members of Stanwick Races Group were horrified to awake on Easter Sunday, 23rd March 2008, to find about 2 inches of snow, with only just over 24 hours to the start of the 7th annual Stanwick Races!

* (Yes - we know that Nike was actually a 'Goddess' ..... let's just put it down to poetic licence!)

An emergency meeting was called for 2 p.m., by which time most of the snow had melted and the weather forecast for Monday said that it was expected to be ‘cloudy with sunny intervals’. It was decided that the 10K Road Race could go ahead as planned, but that a final decision would be made on Race Day itself as to whether the 2K Fun Run would go ahead.

In the event, on Monday it was, once more, a fine and bright day, albeit a little colder than usual, which meant that the Marshalls, Officials and Stallholders needed to don their thermals, gloves, scarves and hats!

There were 279 finishers in the 10K Road Race and 123 finishers in the 2K Fun Run, with the crowds, once more, turning out in force to support the runners.

Congratulations to Sharon Johnson who won the Stanwick Parish Council Shield for the first Stanwick woman home, and to James Lambert who won the Stanwick Parish Council Shield for the first Stanwick man.
